Welcome to Room 9

Welcome to Room 9.  We are looking forward to an exciting 2013 with lots of new learning.

We will use our blog to share our learning so please look at our posts and make comments. We love to hear what people have to say about our learning and are keen to have great learning conversations through your quality comments.

Dear Parents/Caregivers

This is a little note of introduction to let you know a little about me,
as I will be your child’s teacher for this year.  My name is Trudy Strom
and I live in Half Moon Bay with my husband Jeff.  We moved from
Wellington to Auckland just before Christmas 1999 and I taught the New Entrant/Year One class at Howick Primary for three years before starting at Sunnyhills School half way through 2003.

Our son, Nathan (29), is living in Canada. He has left home four times and each time he returns, he brings all his flatmates home with him.  We are hoping it is too far from Canada for all his entourage to travel.  Our daughter, Courtney (26), lives in Wellington and comes home often to visit. We are a very family orientated couple and always seem to be housing ours or the children’s friends and relatives. As you can imagine, during the last eleven years we have felt like we have been running a hotel-at a profit loss of course!

I have taught in many schools, working with different age levels in the twentyseven years I have been teaching.  Prior to my coming to Auckland, I taught the Year 0/1 children at St Brigid’s School in Johnsonville for two years and before that I taught at Raroa Normal Intermediate.

I have really enjoyed working at Sunnyhills School the last ten years.  I love teaching the New Entrant children and am really looking forward to another busy, exciting year teaching in room 9.

I am always grateful for hands on help in the classroom.  Once the children are settled, I would love help during Writing times so please let me know if you would like to help.  I also appreciate help sharpening the pencils each day, so feel free to use my pencil sharpener when you drop the children off each morning.  I am also grateful for ice cream and yoghurt containers so please send them to school.  Thanks.

Thank you for the prompt purchase of the stationery.  If you would like to cover the books just ask for them back and you can take them home. I would also like each child to have a durasealed can to keep their zooms and scissors in.  Please come and see me so I can show you what I mean.

When you are picking up your child after school it would be great if you could meet your child outside the classroom each day.  I will always only dismiss the children into the care of a parent or an older sibling to make sure they are safe leaving school.

My aim is to provide a happy, secure, caring environment with each child actively involved in the learning process.  It is really important to me that the children feel good about themselves and coming to school.  If you have any queries at any time please feel comfortable to come and see me, or contact me by ringing me at school (5768031) or emailing me on trudys@sunnyhills.school.nz.  I look forward to working with you and your child.

Kind regards
Trudy Strom
